About

It's so good to have you here! Plume Handmades is a handcrafted jewelry collection designed and created by me, Brigid Pickett. I'm a mother & a trail runner. I've lived across the country with my small family for the past handful of years. Born & raised in the Midwest, then off to the Colorado Rockies, the Missouri Ozarks, to the foot of the Huachuca Mountains in southern Arizona, & currently navigating city life near Boston.  I find my inspiration in the open spaces where I have lived and traveled, the mountains and trails where I run, & through the simple beauty found in everyday life with my family.
I began making jewelry as a young girl. I have sweet memories of stringing Czech seed beads onto fishing swivels to make bracelets with my mom and aunt. I frequented our local bead shop while growing up and my mom could always count on receiving a piece of handmade jewelry for her Christmas gift. As an adult I learned how to weave Japanese glass seed beads into earrings. Now I have taken a dive into working with metal—which is a craft I always dreamt of learning, but never imagined it would be possible for me. Thanks to an online metal smithing class teaching me the basics, the internet providing me with a plethora of knowledge at my fingertips, and my growing confidence to create jewelry, I am learning as I go each time I fire up my torch. Each night after I've tucked my babes into bed I'm learning more and more about working with metal. There are missteps and there are strides, but each day I remind myself that beauty is in the process.
My jewelry is thoughtfully and delicately crafted using sterling silver and high quality stone. Plume Handmades was named for a flowering shrub native to the southwest. The plant and my jewelry have aspects that are both delicate and intricate, yet simultaneously resilient and strong. The plumes of this plant are made of wispy silk-like strands. This plant thrives in the scorching sun—grown to last. My jewelry is slowly and gently handcrafted; strengthened by flame and force. Made of silver and stone. It's a dance between delicate and strong. And it’s damn pretty.
